A catastrophic flash flood has swept through the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, leaving at least 15 people missing or unaccounted for. The calamity occurred on Saturday afternoon, when intense storms caused the rapid rise of water levels in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area.
The National Park Service reported that more than 60 individuals were evacuated from the area by park staff and the Arizona Department of Public Safety as of Sunday morning. Despite the harrowing event, there have been no reports of injuries thus far.

National Weather Service meteorologist Justin Johndrow explained to the Associated Press that the flooding happened on the north side of the Grand Canyon, where Bright Angel Creek originates from the North Rim and descends about 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) down to the Colorado River. He added that more rain and thunderstorms were anticipated in the area into Monday, which could exacerbate the situation further.
