As autumn approaches and the foliage begins its seasonal transition, communities across the SouthCoast are preparing for a comprehensive calendar of fall festivals. The region’s 2026 autumn lineup offers residents and visitors throughout Greater New Bedford an extensive assortment of outdoor celebrations, culinary tastings, and family-oriented activities designed to showcase local traditions without requiring extensive travel.
The regional schedule highlights an array of gatherings scheduled across September and early October, uniting towns such as Dartmouth, Acushnet, Middleboro, Westport, and New Bedford. Spanning historical traditions, agricultural heritage, charitable fundraisers, and seasonal food competitions, the upcoming events reflect the diverse cultural and recreational fabric of the SouthCoast area.
The seasonal festivities commence in Dartmouth with the Dartmouth Grange Fair, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12. Hosted at the Dartmouth Grange property at 1133 Fisher Road, the fair provides free admission across both days. The event opens on Friday at 4 p.m., featuring an evening lineup that includes a community pie-eating contest at 6:30 p.m. followed immediately by a family magic performance at 7 p.m.
The Grange Fair resumes on Saturday with an expanded roster of rural and domestic arts. Attendees can observe live beekeeping demonstrations, participate in apple tastings, and view intricate art quilting exhibits. Saturday’s schedule also includes the traditional Giant Penny Sale alongside live musical entertainment delivered by the Unlikely Strummers Ukulele Band, offering broad entertainment for all age brackets.
Simultaneously, the town of Acushnet will host its 45th annual Apple-Peach Festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13. Centered at the historic Long Plain Museum at 1203 Main St., this milestone anniversary event celebrates local agriculture with an abundance of peach cobbler, fresh-baked goods, artisan crafts, and live musical entertainment set against a classic small-town backdrop.
A central highlight of the Acushnet festival is the traditional Sunday parade, scheduled to step off at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13. Marching from Pope Park directly toward the main festival grounds at the museum, the parade serves as a longstanding community centerpiece that honors the agricultural identity of the area while drawing multi-generational crowds.
Also on Saturday, Sept. 12, the Whaling City Collective will introduce its first annual Community Festival at the Holy Ghost Grounds and Hall, located at 104 Allens Neck Road in Dartmouth. Running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., this inaugural indoor and outdoor gathering offers free entry and includes local artisan booths, handmade merchandise, food vendors, musical performances, raffles, and field day competitions designed for family participation.
For those interested in an evening shopping experience, Middleboro will host the Sip & Stroll: Harvest event on Saturday, Sept. 12. Taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Middleboro Town Hall Lawn at 10 Nickerson Ave., the open-air market brings together dozens of craft vendors, food trucks, and an on-site bar service. Admission and parking are both complimentary for visitors exploring the seasonal market.
Family-centered programming continues the following weekend on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Southcoast YMCA presents its Dartmouth Fall Festival. Held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 276 Gulf Road in Dartmouth, the event is tailored for children ages 2 to 10. For a fee of $10 per child with advance registration required, participants can enjoy pumpkin decorating, seasonal crafts, face painting, a bounce house, popcorn, and an interactive story walk.
On the same day, New Bedford will host Fall Festa at Madeira Field, situated at 50 Madeira Ave. Offering free admission for all ages, the gathering centers around a traditional pig roast complemented by live country music. The grounds will also feature independent craft and retail vendors alongside dedicated recreational activities for children throughout the afternoon.
Middleboro will provide additional weekend options on Sept. 19 with the Titicut Green Fall Festival. Operating from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 38 Plymouth St., the marketplace gathers more than 60 artisans, crafters, and local vendors. Visitors can browse custom goods, enter promotional raffles, and purchase homemade preserves and baked items from the on-site café.
As September draws to a close, the Westport Fairgrounds at 200 Pine Hill Road will host the South Coast Harvest Festival from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27. The multi-day fair features illuminated fall garden installations, a marketplace of artisans, seasonal culinary options, live music, and an exhibition of antique trucks. Gate admission is priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children under 5 years old.
The calendar extends into early October with the return of New Bedford’s annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4. Hosted at City Pier 3 along MacArthur Drive, the waterfront event functions as a major benefit for regional at-risk youth programs. Attendees can sample craft beers, hard seltzers, and sangria while enjoying food trucks, lawn games such as cornhole, and live entertainment. Advance admission tickets are available for $15, while day-of gate admission is $20, with food and beverages sold separately.
Culinary traditions conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the 21st annual New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival. Scheduled from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Rachel's Lakeside at 950 State Road in Dartmouth, the event invites patrons to taste and vote on soup and chowder recipes prepared by regional restaurants. The evening also features live music by the band Be Kind, Rewind, with event tickets priced at $35.
Together, these autumn gatherings provide an extensive showcase of SouthCoast culture, offering residents diverse opportunities to engage with local artisans, regional foods, and charitable initiatives throughout the fall season.
