Massachusetts residents are being offered a rare opportunity to become an integral part of the travel experience for millions of people arriving in and departing from New England. The Massachusetts Port Authority has officially opened entries for its "Voice of Logan" competition, inviting locals from across the Commonwealth to audition for the chance to become the official announcer at Boston Logan International Airport.
The individual selected through this public search will take on a prominent auditory role across the airport complex. Public address systems at Boston Logan guide, inform, and welcome roughly 43 million passengers every year, meaning the winning contestant's vocal recordings will become one of the most widely heard sounds in regional transportation.
Massport leadership underscored that the initiative is designed to create a warm and authentic sense of place for travelers stepping foot into the major transportation hub. As the airport marks a milestone period in its ongoing operations, officials are placing special emphasis on creating a welcoming environment that reflects the distinct character of the state.
Rich Davey, the chief executive officer of Massport, explained that setting an authentic tone for visitors and returning residents alike is central to the project. Davey noted that during this milestone year, the authority placed immense value on ensuring that every traveler moving through Logan feels immediately at home.
According to Davey, achieving that welcoming atmosphere is best accomplished by highlighting the varied vocal personalities found throughout Massachusetts. He emphasized that the airport aims to capture this feeling through the diverse, distinct, and deeply proud voices that define the Commonwealth.
Participation in the contest is open exclusively to Massachusetts residents who want to share their vocal talents with the traveling public. Massport is encouraging eligible community members from all backgrounds to step forward and submit their entries before the contest window draws to a close.
Those interested in entering the competition can record and submit their official auditions remotely through the dedicated Voice of Logan website. The digital submission platform is scheduled to accept audio entries until the formal deadline on Sunday, October 4.
For hopefuls who prefer an in-person audition experience or who want hands-on assistance, Massport is organizing an official kickoff event at Boston Logan International Airport. The live event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 17, providing a physical venue for entrants to engage directly with the competition.
During the kickoff gathering, participants will be able to access on-site guidance within Terminal A. Massport has arranged for designated Voice of Logan ambassadors to be present at the terminal location to offer coaching and technical support for individuals looking to polish their submissions.
These Voice of Logan ambassadors will be available to assist participants during a two-hour window, running from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the day of the kickoff. The coaching sessions aim to help contestants fine-tune their vocal performance before finalizing their entries.
Submissions will be evaluated across multiple categories to determine which voice best captures the spirit of the region. Judges will closely assess each participant's delivery style and tone, alongside their ability to project an authentic "Boston vibe" that resonates with local culture and everyday travelers.
In addition to vocal delivery, the audition process requires contestants to provide a brief written statement. In this written response, hopefuls must articulate why they believe they should be chosen to serve as the voice greeting millions of travelers at the Commonwealth's primary international airport.
Following the initial evaluation phase, the selection process will transition from official judging to public participation. A panel will narrow down the entire field of submissions to the top five finalists, after which the ultimate decision will be placed into the hands of the general public.
Community members will have the chance to cast their ballots online during an official public voting window. The voting period is scheduled to open on October 24 and run through October 28, giving residents and travelers several days to listen to the finalists and select their favorite voice.
Once the public votes are tallied, Massport plans to officially announce the winner of the Voice of Logan competition on November 5. The winning resident will then have their announcements produced and installed across airport facilities, with their voice scheduled to begin greeting passengers throughout Boston Logan in mid-November.
