New 114,000-Square-Foot H-E-B Supermarket Takes Shape Along Interstate 35 in San Marcos

Motorists traveling through Central Texas are witnessing substantial progress on a major commercial development, as construction on a massive new H-E-B supermarket advances along the Interstate 35 corridor in San Marcos. The planned 114,000-square-foot facility is rapidly taking its full structural shape, establishing a commanding presence that signals significant retail and commercial expansion for the fast-growing community.

The development has reached several noticeable exterior milestones in recent weeks, with the grocery chain's towering brand signage now erected high above the store's primary front facade. These newly installed architectural features make the upcoming retail hub clearly visible to the tens of thousands of commuters, commercial haulers, and regional travelers navigating the busy interstate corridor each day.

On-site construction crews have achieved major headway across the building's exterior envelope. In addition to the primary grocery lettering that now crowns the structure, workers have integrated H-E-B's trademark red color banding along distinct segments of the roofline, firmly establishing the company's familiar branding against the Central Texas skyline.

Specialized exterior departmental signage has also been mounted across several sections of the building’s perimeter. Clear markers are now in place designating the store's dedicated curbside pickup staging area, the drive-thru pharmacy lanes, and the on-site True Texas BBQ dining space, detailing the specific operational sectors that will soon serve area shoppers.

Despite the rapid visible progress on both the building shell and the surrounding site, an exact opening date for the facility has not yet been finalized. Company representatives confirmed that while an official calendar day is still being determined, promotional and construction signage posted at the property continues to indicate a targeted opening window for the fall of 2026.

When the massive store officially begins welcoming customers, it will mark the third H-E-B supermarket operating within the city limits of San Marcos. The strategic addition represents a critical expansion of the grocer’s footprint across Hays County, aimed at keeping pace with ongoing residential development and local commercial growth.

Positioned strategically on the eastern side of San Marcos, the new supermarket is designed to provide convenient access to nearby neighborhoods while simultaneously drawing from broader regional travel flow. The location directly targets motorists moving between the booming metropolitan centers of Austin and San Antonio along the heavily traversed Interstate 35 arterial link.

Inside the 114,000-square-foot footprint, patrons will find an extensive variety of the regional supermarket giant’s trademark food programs and specialty departments. The planned internal layout includes an expansive scratch bakery offering freshly prepared baked goods, as well as an on-site Sushiya station preparing fresh sushi rolls and related specialty items daily.

To accommodate modern consumer preferences for rapid meal planning, the supermarket will feature a fully stocked Meal Simple department. This section will offer ready-to-cook entrees, pre-portioned sides, and quick-heating prepared dishes, providing practical and time-saving culinary solutions for busy commuters, working families, and local university students.

The property will also include a complete restaurant experience through an integrated True Texas BBQ location. This dedicated in-house dining venue will serve slow-smoked Texas-style barbecue dishes, allowing shoppers the flexibility to enjoy casual dine-in meals on the premises or purchase takeout food alongside their regular grocery haul.

Beyond the main retail grocery building, the larger development parcel will host several standalone convenience and automotive amenities. Plans for the site detail an H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store, a multi-pump fuel station offering discounted gas options, and a modern car wash facility to create a comprehensive, multi-service destination.

Digital fulfillment and quick-service operations represent central pillars of the store's logistical framework. The facility includes an extensive curbside pickup infrastructure designed for swift loading of online grocery orders, paired with dedicated pharmacy drive-thru windows intended to streamline medical pickup and prescription services without requiring customers to exit their vehicles.

The construction of the new supermarket is occurring alongside other major commercial activity in the immediate vicinity. Groundwork is actively advancing on the neighboring property for McCarty Commons, a sizable master-planned commercial development that will substantially broaden the shopping options available at the intersection.

According to state regulatory filings, McCarty Commons will be anchored by a 135,918-square-foot Home Depot location. Construction on the expansive home improvement retail warehouse is scheduled to get underway in the fall of 2026, creating a synergistic retail node alongside the adjacent grocery project.

The simultaneous development of the new H-E-B and the surrounding McCarty Commons complex underscores the rapid commercial evolution of this segment of Interstate 35. As exterior installations conclude and interior outfitting approaches, the corridor stands poised to become a vital retail anchor for the entire regional trade area.
